Thank you to all of our families who were able to join our Zoom call last night. It is always good to be able to provide you with an update in ‘virtual-person’ and not just through our usual email and daily calls.

We are pleased to report that all tests for our residents from yesterday’s testing have returned negative results, as have the staff results that we have received so far. We are now waiting on the last of our staff results to come through.

As always we are thankful that we have no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Home and will continue to reinforce the importance of maintaining all of our infection control procedures and practices to keep covid out of Riddell Gardens.

11 August 2020, 4.00pm

The third round of testing was completed today for residents and staff. We will be in contact as soon as the results start to come in.

Over this weekend, we will have some of our staff who were in self-isolation being cleared to return to work. This will be great for our residents who will see their familiar faces back in the Home (albeit with masks on).

We have maintained a close eye on what is happening out in the community, and as we expressed yesterday, we cannot be too careful with Sunbury covid transmission numbers on the rise. Please protect yourselves and your families by staying vigilant with the use of masks, and social distancing whenever you are out for essential reasons.

10 August 2020, 4.00pm

The DHHS has confirmed that the 3rd round of testing will be conducted tomorrow (Tuesday 11-August) for residents and staff. We will be in contact as soon as the results start to come in.

As you may be aware, Sunbury has been identified as a hot spot with elevated rates of community transmission. While our Home is in a fortunate position to be COVID-free, we are maintaining high vigilance with all staff screening and infection control protocols being maintained to do everything possible to keep the virus from entering our Home.

It is with much sorrow that we advise you of the passing of the gentleman who was admitted to our Home having unknowingly contracted covid while in hospital. Within 24 hours of arriving at Riddell Gardens, he displayed covid symptoms and was immediately transferred back to hospital to be cared for. We are saddened that he did not get the chance to experience, and be part of the wonderful community here in our Home. We have been in contact with the family and have offered whatever support we can during this very difficult time.

A Family Zoom call will be held tomorrow (Tuesday 11-Aug) at 6.30pm

We also wanted to mention that today is a special day set aside to recognise all people who work so tirelessly in the aged care sector.

On this National Aged Care Employee Day, we would like to sincerely thank all of our workforce at the frontline and behind the scenes who come to work each day to care for, and keep our residents safe and well, be it directly or indirectly.

5 August 2020, 6.00pm

All testing for residents was completed this morning by the DHHS with staff testing scheduled for the afternoon. We will be in touch with families as soon as we receive results from pathology.

Currently there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Home.

We have maintained contact with the hospital to check in on our resident who regrettably tested positive for COVID-19 on the weekend.Furthermore, we have also been able to ascertain that the resident contracted the virus while in hospital prior to being admitted to our Home.

It is vitally important that we continue to closely monitor our residents for any symptoms no matter how slight and are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our staff and residents.

We will continue to provide families with daily communication through this update and also through regular check in calls from the Home to discuss any concerns or questions you may have relating to loved ones.

4 August 2020, 5.00pm

Thank you to the families who we were able to reach last night for the opportunity to speak with you directly on the precautionary lockdown situation at Riddell Gardens.

In keeping with the Department of Health’s advice, Riddell Gardens, like all aged care homes across Australia, has a risk management plan in place for COVID-19.

In addition to our usual processes and protocols for infection prevention and control, we have taken extra measures to protect the health and safety of our residents and employees. This includes all employees being required to wear masks at all times when working since 13 July 2020.

Despite these additional safety measures, a new resident admitted from St Vincent’s hospital on 30 July, while in their initial 48 hour isolation period with us, displayed symptoms of a chesty cough and was transferred to Sunshine hospital. A COVID-19 test was conducted which unfortunately returned a positive result. The resident remains in hospital and is being cared for there.

Currently there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Home

While it was only a short period of time that the resident was at the Home in isolation, we have taken all necessary precautions put our Home into Precautionary Lockdown with our COVID-19 emergency response plan and all staff are now in full PPE.

Contact tracing is underway to ascertain close contacts.

The local PHU and the Department of Health and Human Services have been contacted and will be providing direction and guidance to the Home on the next steps to ensure any potential risks are managed effectively. This includes when testing of all residents and staff will take place.
