Meanwhile, we remain thankful that we have no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Home and will stay vigilant in upholding all of our infection control procedures and practices to keep covid out of Tannoch Brae.

Please be assured we will keep you updated on the next steps as direction comes through from Barwon Health after all test results have been returned.

Testing for residents was completed by Barwon Health yesterday, with staff testing being conducted today. We are expecting results to come in progressively and will be contacting families as soon as we receive them.

Currently there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our Home.

We have had questions in our daily calls from families as to when the precautionary lockdown will be over. Importantly, we will be directed by the DHHS on this matter, including on whether additional rounds of testing will be required.

The continuation of negative results from all residents and staff will have a positive influence on the duration of the precautionary lockdown. If this continues we would expect to move to what is termed “Enhanced Surveillance” status within the next week. This would enable some easing of restrictions whilst taking care not to compromise resident safety or infection control.

11 August 2020, 4.00pm

There is no change to yesterdays’ update, with final staff testing results from round one continuing to come back negative.

Currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our Home.

A reminder that Barwon Health will be conducting a second round of testing on Wednesday 12-August for residents, with staff testing scheduled for Thursday 13-August.

During this period of precautionary lockdown, it is so important for our residents to be able to stay in touch with family members and for you to maintain contact with your loved ones. We strongly encourage you to book in for a weekly Zoom wellbeing check in call, it certainly brings joy to our residents’ days.

We recognise that the precautionary lockdown situation is new for our families and know that you may have concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to talk to us about your concerns during our daily calls.

With the all clear from the last round of test results for residents and promising reports for staff, we are thankful that there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our Home.

A reminder that Barwon Health will be conducting a second round of testing on Wednesday 12-August for residents, with staff testing scheduled for Thursday 13-August.

As mentioned, having two systems for testing means it will be difficult to synchronise the communication of results for residents and staff as tightly as we would like. Please be assured that that we will be in touch as soon as the results come in.

8 August 2020, 4.00pm

A short update today, with our Home given the all clear from the first round of testing.

As communicated, we are now preparing for Barwon Health to conduct a second round on Wednesday 12-August for residents, and coordinating for staff to be tested independently.

With two systems in place for testing, we unfortunately are unable to synchronise the communication of results with residents and staff as closely as we would ideally like. As such, we would like to thank you in advance for your patience over the coming week with reporting of results.

We assure you that we will in touch as soon as the results come in.

7 August 2020, 4.00pm

As mentioned in our update yesterday, all resident test results have been returned as negative, and we are awaiting staff results as they were conducted independently.

Barwon Health have confirmed that the 2nd round of testing for residents will be happening on Wednesday 12-August, and we will again, schedule staff testing with the assistance of our regular GP at a local pathology clinic.

We also wanted to mention that today is a special day set aside to recognise all people who work so tirelessly in the aged care sector.

On this National Aged Care Employee Day, we would like to sincerely thank all of our workforce at the frontline and behind the scenes who come to work each day to care for, and keep our residents safe and well, be it directly or indirectly.

6 August 2020, 6.00pm

In today’s update, we can report that all test results for residents have been returned negative.

We have completed testing for all staff with results expected in the next 24-48 hours. We have achieved this through working closely with local GP’s and pathology teams, for which we are very grateful for their cooperation.

Currently there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Home.

We regret to inform that the DHHS has advised that window visits are not permitted at this time. We understand this may be disappointing for families, but we must follow all directions from health authorities.

We encourage families to stay connected with loved ones during this time by continuing to book our Zoom Wellbeing video calls and staying in touch with the activities happening in the Home through our regular updates.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we do everything necessary to ensure the safety of our residents and staff.

5 August 2020, 5.00pm

In today’s update, we can report that testing has been completed for residents. This was conducted by Barwon Health, and we will be in contact with families as soon as they advise us of residents' results.

Barwon Health have advised us that they will not be undertaking staff testing as they did not identify any staff close contacts in their tracing exercise.

Currently, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Home.

However, please be assured that staff testing is definitely part of our precautionary lockdown protocols. We will be organising this independently with a local pathology group in the next few days. In the meantime all staff will continue to wear full PPE at all times.

We will continue to provide our families with further information during the daily check-in calls, this is the best opportunity to discuss any concerns or clinical questions relating to loved ones.

A reminder that the COVID information line is for any general information and enquiries, and where necessary provide assistance in referring you to appropriate resources.

4 August 2020, 5.00pm

Thank you to the families who we were able to reach last night for the opportunity to speak with you directly on the precautionary lockdown situation at Tannoch Brae.

In keeping with the Department of Health’s advice, Tannoch Brae, like all aged care homes across Australia, has a risk management plan in place for COVID-19.

In addition to our usual processes and protocols for infection prevention and control, we have taken extra measures to protect the health and safety of our residents and employees. This includes all employees being required to wear masks at all times when working since 13 July 2020.

Despite these additional safety measures, a staff member after feeling unwell on 31-July, was tested and returned a positive COVID-19 result on 3-August and is in self-isolation. Contact tracing is now underway.

Currently there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Home

We have taken all necessary precautions, immediately putting Tannoch Brae into Precautionary Lockdown in line with our COVID-19 emergency response plan. All staff are now in full PPE.

Contact tracing is underway to ascertain close contacts.

The local PHU and the Department of Health and Human Services have been contacted and will be providing direction and guidance to the Home on the next steps to ensure any potential risks are managed effectively. This includes the testing protocols for all residents and staff.
