Retirement living team builds furniture to support veterans

Bolton Clarke retirement living team members have rolled up their sleeves and dusted off the tools to make furniture for veterans.  

The pieces of furniture were loaded up in a truck and sent to not-for-profit Wounded Heroes Australia to assist veterans and their families across Australia who find themselves needing extra support.

Regional Operations Manager Jon said the unique opportunity was a great way to not only bring together the team but put together something that will make a difference in the community.

“Looking back at our history as an organisation – particularly in our 140^th year – putting this furniture together to support veterans was a fantastic blend of our meaning and our why,” Jon said.

“By taking this time out, our team will have made a positive difference to many lives with these pieces of furniture.

“Everyone pulled together as a team, which was amazing to put everything together.”

The teams assembled three extendable tables with 12 dining chairs, four bamboo wardrobes, four drawer storage units and two entertainment TV units.

Wounded Heroes Australia National Community Engagement Manager Gena watched the process of the furniture being built and says it made the experience all the more special for when the pieces are ready to go to their new homes.

“We have a 24/7 crisis line and we support veterans with things like emergency accommodation, food and fuel vouchers, pay bills and so on,” Gena said.

“We often have people who are homeless so we help with longer-term housing and provide furniture for the home as well.

“All this furniture that the team have put together today will provide us with some lovely pieces to gift to people who are in need.”
