Retirees learn secret to longevity with Marcus Pearce

Could Australia soon have its own longevity blue zones?

Author, podcaster and longevity expert Marcus Pearce thinks retirement villages could have the right ingredients.

Marcus has shared insights from across the world with residents at Bolton Clarke’s Callisto Place and Martha Cove villages in Victoria.

“I’ve always said that Australia’s first Blue Zone will be a retirement village because they have all the ingredients to make it so,” Marcus said.

“Community and social life is a superfood that far exceeds nutrition when it comes to longevity - a great social life trumps a great diet for ageing well.”

During the sessions with Bundoora and Safety Beach retirees, Marcus explored an array of topics from forming a solid community around us as we age to the importance of movement and breaking down ageing stereotypes.

“We go to the European Blue Zones of Sardinia and Ikaria every year so I bring a lot of those stories to make it very clear to people that you can have a very compelling future.

“It’s all about breaking the ageing stereotype and giving everyone the permission to have fun, but more importantly not to give in to those stereotypes.”
