Residents leading a buzzing sustainability project

Bolton Clarke Newmans on the Park residents have been creating a buzz around the home setting up a bee ecosystem right in their backyard.
Forming their Beekeepers Club earlier this year, their beehive is now flourishing and so is their shared learning experience about how their community can contribute to the ecosystem.
Today (5 June) is World Environment Day aiming to spread awareness and encouraging action to protect our environment.
For resident Thelma, her love for being out in the garden drew her to the project and Thelma is now sharing her gardening expertise to help encourage bees to visit.
“I am really enjoying being a part of the club and being out in the garden to plant and water the seeds,” Thelma said.
“I am very interested to see how everything grows and how many more bees we get during spring.
“Bees are our friends and I love seeing them especially when they are in my rose garden.”
Residents chose to house Australian Blue-banded Bees, working together to plan the garden and apply all they are learning about beekeeping, hive dynamics and sustainability.
The garden and beehive area are also being used for art sessions, high teas and other events to raise funds to continue their work in the space.
